From 220 miles to 1,000 meals: Liam’s fundraising challenge for Cardiff Foodbank

Liam Jones challenge Ynys Mon to Cardiff

You may have been following Liam Jones’ extraordinary challenge, running 220 miles from Ynys Môn to Cardiff Bay in just over five days.

It was a gruelling journey, and Liam shared openly on his Instagram account about the physical and mental demands of his fundraising challenge.

At times, this was a tough watch.

We were delighted when Liam got back safely to Cardiff.

Over the past couple of weeks, Liam and his co-runners have not just given their time but used their platform to shine a light on food insecurity in Cardiff.

Liam is the founder of Overseas Apparel, a Cardiff-based clothing company, and he kindly set up a food collection point in his shop in the Royal Arcade in the centre of the city.

Now, most people would pop the donations in a car and take them to our warehouse, but Liam (and his fellow runners) came up with a far more unique and unusual way to get the donations to us in Splott.

Supported by runners from his OSA running club, Liam ran/pushed the donations – weighing 93kg – to our warehouse.

The donation point is still in his Overseas Apparel shop – feel free to drop in with food and other essentials. Our website homepage has a list of our most needed items.

We’re truly grateful to Liam. For his imagination and tenacity with which he approached his fundraising challenges.

So far, Liam has raised a brilliant £1,783 for Cardiff Foodbank to help us support people in crisis.

In total, both the food and money donated provides the equivalent of 875 meals. An amazing impact.

Speaking about Liam's fundraising, Annie Hillman, Fundraising Officer for Cardiff Foodbank, said: "Liam took on an extraordinarily tough challenge from the top of Wales, to the heart of Cardiff to not only raise vital funds for Cardiff foodbank but to help raise awareness of the work we do.  We are incredibly grateful to him and his team at Overseas Apparel for everything they have done to help end hunger in Cardiff".
